School of Architecture and Spatial Design, London Metropolitan University, 7th - 11th March 2005

Celebration week: a week of student presentations, studio cross-overs and a party.

Akademie Schloss Solitude March 11 th - 13 th , 2005 Symposium: Technologies of Place - Political implications for public and private space in the context of emerging new media and technology: an interdisciplinary symposium.

A three day symposium initiated by Judith Gieseler and Helen Stratford, with invited guests from different fields within practice and education, art and architecture.

This symposium is one part of a sequence of events organized by Akademie Schloss Solitude in 2005 that operates at the border zone between architecture, art, science and business, technology and enterprise. Conventionally, technology is discussed outside Architecture, Urban Design and Art completely. Today, more and more processes run simultaneously rather than occurring one after the other, thus creating more complexity. Exchange, feedback and mutually reinforcing strategies between different fields become more necessary.

'Technologies of Place' aims to surrender the distinctions between art, architecture and technology in order to create exchange and feedback.

Ideally, findings and gained knowledge from this series of events will have a positive impact on developing new strategies. One goal is to develop visions for the future:   to involve people from different disciplines in an exchange that will have results of public utility.
